JESUS CARES FOR FAMILIES
John 13:34...."Love one another. As I have loved
you, so you must love one another.
Bible Study..John 11:1-44
Only John's Gospel describes this event. John was
likely an eyewitness to Jesus' miracle, and his record
provides a testimony of Jesus as the Messiah and His
power over life and death. This miracle was the
seventh one that John recorded showing Jesus as the
Son of God and proving His claim to be the
ressurrection and the life. It was also the last and
greatest of Jesus' public miracles (apart from His
own resurrection.)
Jesus had been preaching in villages west of the Jordan
River when news came of Lazarus's illness. Lasarus
was in Bethany, probably 30 or 40 miles from where
Jesus was. Bethany was about two miles east of
Jerusalem on the road to Jericho, and near the
Mount Of Olives. It is possible that the disciples were
concerned about traveling so close to Jerusalem. On
Jesus' last trip there the Jews had tried to stone Him.
When Jesus said that Lazarus's illness would "not
end in death," He probably meant that his illness
would not result in death alone, but would be a means
of showing God's power and bringing glory to Him.
It was another way to convince those who still did
not accept Jesus as the Messiah.
Jesus' words in verses 25 and 26 were restated in
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 and 1 Corintians 15:22-23.
The rasing of Lazarus caused another uproar among
the Jewish leaders, and caused more Jews to follow
Christ; so much so that the religious leaders
considered execting Lazarus as will as Jesus,
(John 12:1-11)
