JESUS PROMISES A HELPER

John 14:16-18."I will ask the Father, and he will
give you another Counselor to be with you forever
"The Spirit of Truth"

Earlier in His ministry, Jesus told His disciples
about the Holy Spirit (John 7: 37-39). referring
to the spirit as a stream of living water. He used
the same metaphor of living water with  the woman
at the well (John 4:10). Jesus spoke of the Holy
Spirit as coming later becuse Jesus was till
physically present with them.
At the Last Supper, Jesus promisd to send a
"Counselor" (John 14:16, which is a legal term
meaning counsel for the defense. The promise
assures as that the Spirit can be a Helper who will
always stand by Jesus'People. After Jesus rose from
the dead. he again reminded the disciples of His
promise (Luke 24:49) emphasizing its importance
by His command to stay put until the Spirit would
come.
Here is how Jesus describes the roles of the Holy
Spirit to His disciples; He is the "Spirit of thuth"
(John 14:17), and would therefore be unacceptable
to the world. He would be a counselor, or comforter
(verse26), so that we would bring to mind those things
that Jesus taught, thereby guiding us in the application
of spiritual truths.
The results of the Spirit's work in our lives is peace,
distinct from the false security that the world offers.

God Bless Each of You
