Gamaliel's advice to the counsel!

Acts 5:33, Beginning where we left off yesterday, It ties in good right here.
When they (The council) heard this, they were furious and plotted to kill them. V-34, Then one in the council stood up, named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law held in respect by all the people, and commanded them to put the Apostles outside for a little while. V-35, And he said to them; "Men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what you intend to do regarding these men. V-36, For sometime ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody. A number of men about four hundred, joined him. He was slain, and all who obeyed him were scattered and came to nothing. V-37, After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the census and drew away many people after him. He a;so perished and those who obeyed him were dispersed. 38, And now I say to you, "Keep away from these men and let them alone; for if this plan or work is of men it will come to nothing.
But if it be of God, you will not overthrow it, lest you also be found to fight against God. V-40, And they agreed with him and when they had called the Apostles and beaten them, they commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.So they departed from the council rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer for His Name. 42, And daily in the Temple and in every house they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ. (I will try to do the explaining here) Gamaliel was the teacher of Saul, who later became Apostle Paul Ch. 22:3. Gamaliel was given the honored title "Rabban," meaning "Our teacher," It is said that Mishna--the commentary on the Torah, the first 5 books of the OT that when Gamaliel died, "The glory of the Torah ceased, and purity and sanctity died out also." This is a, impressive eulogy for a Jewish teacher. Hope you learned something from this lesson, I did. I learn something new every time I study the Bible.
