Apocalypse Wow!
Isaiah 40:8
The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our
God stands forever.
Disaster movies sell. Those of us old enough to remember
The Poseidon Adventure easily recall the moment a giant
wave capsized the Poseidon, a huge ocean liner, turning it
completely upside down in the middle of the ocean. I think
I saw the movie several times, it was like it was real and I
think at that moment I said I never would get on an ocean liner.
By someone's account, Hollywood has dramatized.
*11 major motion pictures devoted to avalanche disasters.
*21 films featuring earthquake devastation.......................
*9 movies focusing on impending meteor or asteriods.......
*20 films featuring volcanic upheavals..............................
*Floods, and tidal waves, weather disasters, hurricanes,....
tornadoes, and global warmings.
Thats a lot of footage devoted to destruction especially since
this list omits all the films about man-made disasters like
epidemics and nuclear war.
Interestingly, though, none of them ends in Earths' destruction.
Every time, humanity survives, though often it's by a thread.
If nothing else, movies like these remind us how fragile life is
and how little control we really have over our own futures.
Even if not major disaster mars our lifetime, little by little,
smaller events can and do change our lives forever.Think
about all the events that have already happened around the
world. Isaiah was right: "The grass withers and the flowers
fall." Happily, though, he was right about something else, too:
"The Word of our God stands forever."
Someday, our Lord himself will call a halt to life on earth as
we know it. Jesus will descend.
".....with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel
and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will
rise. 1 Thessalonians 4:16
But even that won't spell an end to the promised God has made
to his people. His word "stands forever." Jesus' promised {and,
thus, certain} return will usher in endless peace and joy for all
who trust in him as Savior. We will experience at last the fullness
of the promises he has made.
Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!
Lord your word stands forever. Work in me............
